USA Jobs Privacy Policy
Restart built the USA Jobs app as a free mobile application that helps users search federal job listings, save jobs, save search filters, receive reminders, and optionally sign in for a more personalized experience. This page explains how information is handled when you use the app.
The USA Jobs app is an independent application. It is not an official government application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by USAJOBS, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, or any federal agency.
Information We Collect
Information stored on your device
The app stores some information locally on your device so the app can function properly. This may include saved jobs, saved searches, search history, selected filters, onboarding status, alert settings, and reminder preferences.
Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication
If you choose to sign in with Google, the app uses Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication. Through that process, basic account information may be available to the app, such as your name, email address, profile image, and authentication identifiers needed to keep you signed in.
Job search, saved jobs, and alerts
When you search for jobs, open job details, apply filters, save jobs, or create alerts, the related search parameters may be sent to the USAJOBS data service so matching job listings can be returned.
Approximate location
If you choose to use location-based features, the app may request approximate location permission to help prefill location filters and improve location-aware job discovery. We do not claim to store precise GPS location in our own backend.
Notifications
If you grant notification permission, the app may send local notifications for job alerts and saved-job closing reminders.
Analytics, crash reporting, and diagnostics
The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand app usage, improve performance, and diagnose crashes or reliability issues. This may include device and app information, interaction events, crash traces, and diagnostic metadata.
Advertising
The app may show ads using Google AdMob. If ads are enabled, Google and its partners may collect information such as advertising identifiers, device identifiers, approximate location, IP address, device and operating system details, and ad interaction data to serve, measure, and improve advertising.
Maps and location display
The app uses Google Maps SDK features to display job location maps inside the app. Map features may involve Google processing location and map-related requests according to Google's own terms and privacy practices.
How We Use Information
We use information handled through the app to:
- retrieve and display federal job listings and job details;
- save your jobs, filters, searches, and reminder settings on your device;
- provide optional Google sign-in and a personalized app experience;
- deliver local job alert and saved-job reminder notifications;
- analyze app usage and improve reliability through Firebase services; and
- serve and measure ads when advertising is enabled.

Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may rely on the services listed above to process data needed for app functionality, analytics, crash reporting, authentication, map display, and advertising.
Data Retention
Saved jobs, saved searches, search history, filters, onboarding status, and reminder settings are generally stored locally on your device until you remove them, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
If you sign in with Google, your authentication state may persist until you sign out. Data processed by Google, Firebase, AdMob, or other third-party services is retained according to those providers' own policies.
Security
We use reasonable measures available through the Android platform and the third-party services we rely on. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Links to Other Services
The app may contain links to external websites or services, including official USAJOBS pages and Google services. If you follow a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party's site or service. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party services.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
